University of Victoria Wifi 6 Deployment Progress
Wifi 6 Upgrade Complete!
All wireless on campus now supports Wifi 6.
What is Wifi 6?
Wi-Fi 6 is the next generation of WiFi technology. Also known as "AX WiFi" or "802.11ax WiFi", Wifi 6 builds and improves upon the current 802.11ac WiFi standard, now called Wifi 5. Wi-Fi 6 was originally built in response to the growing number of wireless devices in the world.
Benefits
Wifi 6 brings higher speeds, greater reliability, more clients per access point, reduced device power usage, increased range, and better performance in congested environments.
It is fully backwards compatible with existing devices, but to receive the full benefit, devices must support Wifi 6.
